Prayers & Reflections

  • Prayer for Guidance

    Jesus our Teacher,
stirred by your Wisdom and companioned by your love,
we ask you to call us, your sisters and brothers,
to see ever more clearly where your creation suffers.
We implore you to embolden us to set out in haste
along courageous paths that lead towards greater life.

We beg that you beckon us to enter brazenly into those places
where peacemaking will one day quell discord
where dignity and respect will finally eclipse poverty
where justice and virtue will topple racism
where truth will unbind all enslaved by dishonour
and where healing of Earth will at last come to pass
as your people stand as one in right relationship.

    Impassion us!
    Open our eyes to see
where and how your Word must be preached.
It is time to set out in haste….

    Amen.

  • A Prayer for our Earth

All-powerful God, you are present in the whole universe
And in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.

Pour out upon us the power of your love,
that we may protect life and beauty.

Fill us with peace, that we may live
as brothers and sisters, harming no one.

    O God of the poor,

Help us to rescue the abandoned and forgotten of this earth,
    So precious in your eyes.
    Bring healing to our lives,
That we may protect the world and not prey upon it,
That we may sow beauty, not pollution and destruction.
Touch the hearts of those who look only for gain
At the expense of the poor and the earth.
Teach us to discover the worth of each thing,
to be filled with awe and contemplation,
To recognize that we are profoundly united with every creature
As we journey towards your infinite light.

We thank you for being with us each day.
    Encourage us, we pray,
In our struggle for justice, love and peace.

  • A Prayer for Pilgrimage

    Pilgrim God,
bless us with courage where our way is fraught with danger.
    Bless us with good companions,
Where the way demands a common cause.
Bless us with good humour, for we cannot travel lightly when weighed down with too much solemnity.
Bless us with humility, to learn from those around us.
Bless our lazy moments, when we need to stretch our limbs for the journey.
Bless us, lead us, love us, bring us home, bearing the gospel of life.

    Amen.
